Application of WCS WMS in container stacker (AS)

Feb 17, 2024

The container stacker (AS/) is an automated warehousing equipment used to store and retrieve goods. It is usually used in large warehouse distribution centers to improve logistics operation efficiency and reduce labor costs.

The bin stacker system consists of the following key components:

Conveyor system: The conveyor system is used to transport goods from the inbound area to the working area of the stacker, and to transport the retrieved goods from the stacker working area back to the outbound area. The conveyor system can take the form of conveyor belts, roller conveyor lines, AGV (automatic guided vehicles), etc.

Stacker: The stacker is the main handling equipment for bins. It moves bins from the storage location to the picking location, or from the picking location to the storage location through vertical movement. A stacker crane usually consists of a set of vertically and horizontally moving forks that can move freely within the warehouse as needed.

Control system: The control system is the brain of the bin stacker system and is responsible for coordinating and controlling all equipment. It includes upper management system (WMS) and lower control system (WCS). WMS is responsible for managing the storage, retrieval and sorting operations of the warehouse, integrating with the enterprise's ERP system to provide order management, inventory management and other functions. WCS is responsible for real-time monitoring and control of the operating status of stackers, conveyor systems and other equipment to ensure the smooth operation of the entire system.

The operation process of the bin stacker system generally includes the following steps:

Order receiving: WMS receives orders from upstream and performs sorting and dispatching according to order requirements.

Goods warehousing: The conveying system transports the warehousing goods from the receiving area to the stacker working area. The stacker stores the goods into designated warehouses and feeds relevant information back to the WMS.

Cargo retrieval: According to the order requirements, WMS instructs WCS to dispatch the stacker to remove the goods that need to be retrieved from the warehouse.

Goods outbound: The stacker delivers the retrieved goods to the outbound area, and then the conveyor system transports them to the outbound or sorting area.

Sorting and shipping: Sorters classify, pack and package the goods based on order information, and then send the goods to the shipping area through a conveyor system or other automated equipment.

During the entire process, WMS and WCS monitor the flow of goods and equipment operating conditions in the warehouse in real time, and coordinate the work of each link to ensure that warehousing and sorting tasks are completed efficiently and accurately.
